The first patient I treated for cigarette addiction was a throat cancer victim. She had to quite smoking prior to surgery. This African American female patient was frail and you could smell the accumulated odor of the smoke after 35 years of smoking. I could not stand staying in the room.  I took her to trans, which is a semi sleep situation and told her to stop smoking. It worked and she stopped smoking.
